Description

In 1603, a shepherd named Brigu places three strange orphans (Sagar, Faria and Shikha) with a religious congregation traveling to the New World. Among the congregation is a fire-haired young woman named Abigail with powers beyond the ordinary. Abigail’s care has been entrusted to Faria and Shikha, while Sagar has been instructed to ensure that the colony survives in this harsh land. Four hundred years later, long after Abigail’s death, the three orphans, still young, seek to understand who they are and why they’re different from ordinary humans. In their quest to learn their origins, they combine the latest scientific methods with ancient mythology. Part thriller, part mystery, this novel explores humanity’s connection to nature and the cycles of death and rebirth that have defined our collective existence.

Rise of the Spring Tide traverses the deep collective unconscious. It sears us with questions of predestination, intimations of immortality, questions of origin, of honor, of loyalty. It poses impossible conundrums and demands unusual insights. A genuine Odyssey, and one that was a pleasure to read.

This novel has it all: characters you care about and a plot driven narrative that weaves together Asian, European, and New World mythologies, magicks, and histories in a fun and fast-paced novel. Most impressive, these multiple cultures and histories have been carefully researched and elegantly written about.

From the cover art through to the end this enthralling story draws the reader into the lives of the three main characters’ search for their origin and its implications for the rest of humanity. One quickly feels the peaceful connectedness of all being the way of things and the harsh wrongness of separation.

Absolutely loved this book! It has a complex story line with many biblical references. The best part of the book was getting to know the characters and following them on their amazing journey. I hoped to see more books from him.

I liked the interesting interplay between the Indian culture and the English Protestant culture, especially in terms of an alternative story of the settlement of New England. The clash between mysticism and the Puritan culture was interesting too.
