Description

Some people chase windmills, others circumnavigate the United States by kayak. Fantasies do not come true, but dreams can. Many people dream of adventure, but few accept the risk of that final step. The Trilogy began as a dream, and then the steps were taken to launch the adventure. The story of the Trilogy brings fear and envy to one’s heart when considering the challenge of moving out of our own comfort zone. My brother, Randy, had numerous adventures, and you are about to join him as he experiences the joys, trials, and people he met on the Trilogy. His story brings to the forefront the resilience, tenacity, and goodness that exists in us all, as well as the quiet voice ever present in the back of our minds that entices us toward adventure. –James J. Bauer

Randy Bauer was my summer camp counselor in the summers of ’77 and ’78 when I was a teenager. He led us on several canoe trips and made a huge impression on me with his outdoor proficiency and kind welcoming spirit. He told us about his world-record canoe/kayak trip, and when I got home after that first summer I looked it up. I never saw Randy after my last summer at Camp Miller, but he was a huge influence as I developed my own love of hiking, camping, and spending time in the outdoors.

This journey put Randy Bauer in the Guinness Book of World Records, something that he was unaware of while paddling. His goal was not to be noted in some record book but simply to see what lay around the next bend in the river.
