When James J. Bauer graduated from high school, he was reading, writing, and spelling at less than a third-grade level, despite having been constantly enrolled in special reading programs. After severe teasing and belittling, James thought of himself as “uniquely flawed” and that he had somehow fooled the school system for twelve years. Following graduation from technical college, James was finally diagnosed as severely dyslexic by his future tutor, C. Wilson Anderson, who, over the next five years, brought James’ literacy skills up to college level. Today, James is a Registered Occupational Therapist, practicing in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
