Albert Park

A Memoir in Lies

Author:

Step into the mind of Albert Park, an unreliable narrator who turns his guilt-ridden life into a surreal, thrice-told fairytale of tragic misadventures, haunting memories, and elusive truths. From abandoned orphan to scheming life coach to world-famous neurosurgeon (or so he claims), Albert spins a charming, contradictory tale riddled with dubious recollections and denial of his role in cascading calamities. Darkly funny and deeply moving, Albert Park: A Memoir in Lies probes guilt, identity, and redemption—and the stories we tell ourselves to survive.

Koefod’s masterful tale is a portrait of our times: a modern picaresque novel that examines the nature of truth, lies and memory.

—Carla Hagen, author Hand Me Down My Walking Cane and Muskeg

This novel is so readable because it raises issues of self-worth, memory, living an ethical life and the masks we wear, all wrapped in fine writing. Koefod, who lives near the real Albert Park, is the author of three books in the Arvo Thorson mystery series and a young adult novel, “Naming the Stars.

I found the book so enjoyable to read, such clever writing! I never knew where the story would lead next and I couldn’t wait to turn each page! Such an entertaining read!

Albert Park: A Memoir in Lies is an exploration of memory, denial, and trauma. The same four names resurface over and over in different storylines as the details of Albert’s life are revealed. Or are they? Written in gorgeous, deliberate prose, the stories become increasingly unbelievable the further we progress into his psyche. In the end, the reader is left with more questions than answers along with a reflection on the meaning of life and what we leave behind. Highly recommended.
