Description

Awesome Kindness is a story about two friends who create their own joy and strengthen the confidence of one another. In their eyes, their friend is the best person in the world. This belief allows them to ignore the negativity of the world. So when Kennedy comes along with her bullying behavior, Jaylen and Langston just ignore the meanness and respond with unexpected kindness. Their loving and positive response causes Kennedy to briefly pause and look at her own actions. She is able to recognize that her meanness is a habit she learned from her brother. A behavior she doesn’t like to experience. The wall of meanness melts away when she chooses to be vulnerable in the safety of her friends. Together they sing, dance, and create more joy in their world.

Awesome Kindness offers a Word Power and Turning a Phrase section to build vocabulary and explain literary concepts. The virtues practice page suggests the daily practice of virtues to strengthen positive responses from children in all situations.

This joyful story is an excellent story modeling kindness. The charming pictures add so much to the narrative. The vocabulary development built into this book as well as others in this new series is a great feature. The discussion at the end of the book about virtues in the story is another plus to help develop these in their children.

This is a delightful story of friendship between zebras! Adding to the depth of the book are the Word Power and Turning a Phrase feature which help children advance in their knowledge of vocabulary and language usage. Practicing Virtues in our everyday life is a way to convey how children can learn from these characters and apply their learnings in their everyday experiences, Very clever indeed. I look forward to sharing more of the stories in this series with my grandchildren!

The opening pages welcome the reader with a spiritual quotation and window to the jungle scene. I love the introduction of the frog and parrot along with our friendly butterfly. Cora has a unique capacity for showing the emotional expressions of the characters. I love the dance! This story takes a very sensitive subject and demonstrates a simple gesture of kindness by the main characters to change the demeanor of another zebra. Thank you for modeling kindness for children of all ages.

This is a book that can be enjoyed by any age child. The language is geared toward upper elementary school reading levels, but the concepts apply to any age. It’s perfect for reading to younger children and discussing how the zebras resolve their conflict. Implanting the ideas of kindness and generosity are peppered throughout this book. The illustrations are exquisite and add to the allure of the book. We also own the Jungle Kings by the same authors and recommend that book as well.
