Carrol Henderson

Wildlife conservationist Carrol Henderson was selected as Minnesota’s first DNR Nongame Wildlife Program supervisor in 1977. He continued in that role for 41 years until his retirement in 2018. His efforts benefited trumpeter swans, peregrine falcons, bluebirds, bald eagles, river otters, ruby-throated hummingbirds, and common terns. His DNR “how-to” books on helping wildlife sold over 300,000 copies. In 2016 he received the national Frances K. Hutchinson award from the Garden Clubs of America as the top conservationist in America. Previous recipients of that award have included Rachel Carson, Walt Disney, Roger Tory Peterson, Ladybird Johnson, and Sigurd Olson.
